Music Box Youth Orchestras

Student musicians from all instrument families (strings, brass, winds, percussion) meet once a week and are led by a conductor to work as a team. Grades K through 12 and all levels are welcome! Orchestras will perform at least twice a year. After reviewing the application and audition videos, students will be placed in one of 3 orchestra levels:

• Level 1: Introduction to Ensemble Playing - no prior ensemble playing experience required

  • Rehearses on a weekday or weekend evening for 1 hour and 30 minutes, date/time pending survey results from the application form

• Level 2: Chamber Orchestra - Prior ensemble playing experience of at least 6 months is required

  • Rehearses on Sundays at 1:00-3:00

• Level 3 Symphony Orchestra - Prior ensemble playing experience of at least 1 year is required

  • Rehearses on Sundays at 3:30-6:00

Audition submissions due: Sunday, January 19th, 2025 at 11:59 PM

(Late submissions may be considered)

Result and sheet music delivered by: Monday, February 3rd, 2025

First Rehearsal is on: Sunday February 23rd, 2025

1. Prepare and record materials from the Music Box Ensembles Audition Requirements 2025

• Please record videos horizontally and clearly show your face and hands (include whole body for cello and bass). Smartphone quality is acceptable.

• If you do not see your instrument in the audition excerpts, please email us at ensembles@redondobeachmusicbox.com for more information.

2. Fill out the application form and submit your audition video(s):

  • For band (not classical), please email ensembles@redondobeachmusicbox.com to inquire.

• We accept Google Drive links, Dropbox links, or unlisted YouTube video links.

• Each audition requirement does not need to be played in one take. However, please combine all videos into one continuous video and write in the Google Form what you are playing in the order that is shown.

• Please make sure that file-sharing links are shared with ensembles@redondobeachmusicbox.com or available to anyone who has access to the link. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding video submissions or audition requirements.

3. Wait to hear from us!

• We will assign you to a group and send you the sheet music and schedule.
